Dr. Michelle Kho
Lead Investigator
Dr. Michelle Kho is an Associate Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. As a clinician-scientist, she also cares for patients as a physiotherapist from the Physiotherapy Department in the St. Joseph’s Healthcare ICU in Hamilton. She holds a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Critical Care Rehabilitation and Knowledge Translation from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
Dr. Karen Choong
Lead Investigator
Dr. Karen Choong is a Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Critical Care, and the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact at McMaster University. She is board certified in Neonatology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Professor Choong is an associate editor of the Journal of Pediatric Intensive Care, and Vice-Chair of the ICU Liberation Committee for the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Oleksa Rewa
Lead Investigator
Dr. Oleksa Rewa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Critical Care Medicine, and the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.
Laurel Kelly
Research Coordinator
Laurel studied Biomedical Sciences at the University of Guelph and then worked as a clinical trial research coordinator before returning to school to obtain her Physiotherapy Degree at McMaster University. She has clinical experience in critical care, neurological rehabilitation, and respiratory physiotherapy. Laurel works as a research physiotherapist on the CYCLE team.
Geoff Strong
Research Assistant
Geoff received a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Niagara University and completed his Master of Science in Physiotherapy at McMaster University. He has clinical experience working in orthopedic and chronic disease rehabilitation. He recently completed a Master of Bioinformatics at the University of Guelph and is currently a Clinical Research Assistant with the CYCLE Methods Centre.
Michelle Fung
Clinical Research Coordinator
Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science, Honours Kinesiology degree from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Queen’s University. While working as an Occupational Therapist at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, she pursued a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Science from McMaster University. Michelle possesses clinical expertise in internal medicine, critical care/ICU, surgery, and hand therapy.
Dr. Heather O’ Grady
Research Staff
Heather has been working with the BEYOND-ICU team since 2017. She recently completed her PhD in Rehabilitation Science under the supervision of Dr. Kho and will be working as research staff at the REVIVe methods centre.
Hibaa Hasan
Research Assistant
Hibaa is currently a medical student at Queen’s University. She joined the team in 2023. She completed her undergraduate degree at McMaster University in the Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour (B.Sc.) program. As a research assistant, she is actively leading various projects including developing the REVIVe website and completing a systematic review.
Jeniszka Gill
Research Assistant
Jeniszka has a BHSc from McMaster in Biology & Pharmacology and just completed a Master’s in Applied Clinical Pharmacology. She has developed a strong background working in oncology and clinical research over the course of her education. Jeniszka is a Clinical Research Assistant on REVIVe
